Captain Kyle Dead
Son of a Pioneer and Himself a Prominent Figure on the Range of Texas.
San Marcos, Texas, October 21. Captain Robert Kyle died last night at his residence in this city in his fifty-eighth year. He was a native of this county and had spent his entire life here. He was a grandson on his mother's side of General Ed Burleson who was one of the founders of San Marcos and whose old homestead now stands as an old landmark near the head of the San Marcos River. He was the eldest son of Felix Kyle, one of the pioneers of the county and long identified closely with the early history of the county.
He was married in 1878 to Miss Anna Randall, a granddaughter of William A. Pitts, who was also one of the founders of the town of San Marcos. His wife and four children survive him. His children are Mrs. Emma Kyle Porter of Waco, Mrs. Felix Kyle Swift of this city, Mrs. Mattie Kyle Swancoat of this city and Mrs. Bessie Kyle Green of Goodwin. He had one son, Zantie Kyle, who died several years ago, leaving one child, a daughter, and his widow, Mrs. Estelle Kyle, of this city.
It is said of Captain Kyle that when he married he had but $30. Twenty of the amount he gave to the preacher performing the ceremony and started life with only $10. He had prospered beyond the average of his fellow men and left an estate estimated at from $75,000 to $125,000. He had been a farmer and stockman during his entire life. The interment took place this afternoon at 4:30 at the Kyle Cemetery. A large crowd attended from this city.
