Lee C. Armstrong

No funeral services are scheduled for Lee C. Armstrong who died Friday at a local hospital. He was 77.

A native of Sublette, Kan., Mr. Armstrong came to Santa Cruz from North Hollywood in 1960. He was a custodian at the Casa del Rey Hotel for 10 years.

He was an acrobat in the circus for several years.

During World War II he was in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his sister, Winifred of San Diego. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Merryman.

Private cremation was at Soquel Crematory. Ashes will be scattered at sea.

Irvin M. Smith and Sons, Chapel of the Four Seasons is in charge of arrangements.

Biographical Notes:
As far as is known, he was a single man, his father being Fred Armstrong, born around 1869 In Sauk County, Wisconsin and his mother was Maybelle Ann Davis Armstrong who died October 24, 1911 in Kansas. It is not known what happened to his father, although the family was together (after Maybelle's death,) in 1920 in Garden City, Finney County, Kansas.

Lee had known siblings: Zelda Armstrong, John Armstrong, Charles Armstrong, Eugene Armstrong, Glenn Armstrong, and Winiford Armstrong.

In 1930, he lived with his sister Zelda's family in Independence, Kansas, where he worked as a cement worker in a factory. In 1940, in San Diego, he worked as a Janitor for the W.M.C.A.. and when he registered for the WW2 draft, his contact was Zelda Stonebreaker, his sister.

Lee enlisted for service during World War 2 on September 28, 1942, at Fort Rosecrans, California.
