James "Crit" Bryant was the son of Sarah Isabel (Collins) and James M. Bryant. His brothers and sisters were Charles William (who married my grandaunt JoAnn Sullivan), Lou Ella, Nathaniel, Sallie A. (who married my granduncle Otha Sullivan), Cora Ellen (who married my great-granduncle Otha Brockman), Mattie, Myrtie, Laura J., Henry T. and Olie (who was the grandfather of my favorite nanny).

Crit married Liza about 1908. They had a son named Luther about a year later. In 1920, Liza was recorded in the census as a widow living in White Oak, Adair County, Kentucky. She had four children: Luther, age 12; Effie, age 9; Rufus, age 6; and Mary, age 2 years and 10 months.

His death certificate indicated the cause of death was rheumatism.
