James Francis Maury resided in Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties, Va. He married in 1817, Mary Randolph. They moved in 1836 to Jefferson County, Mo., near St. Louis, where he was a prosperous planter. Six children were Thomas Francis, James Woodville (1821-22), James Woodville, II, Catherine Mildred (1825-26), Agnes Gray (1828-31), and Gilbert Lafayette Maury.
