Born at home in Elko, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Pinckney Mitchell and Dorothy Youngblood Mitchell. She was first married to late Joseph Daniel Gaskins and was the widow of Terry Todd Parcell. She was a member of Hollow Creek Baptist Church. She had her Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and formerly worked as a bus driver for the City of Augusta, GA. Hazel had a clearance which allowed her to work as a security escort at SRS in Operations.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Gaskins of Aiken, SC, Kimberly Gaskins (Douglas) Meek of Beech Island, SC, Angela Gaskins (David Todd) Hunt of Aiken, SC, and Tricia Parcell of MN; her sons, Jaydean "Dean" Gaskins, Sr. (Kimberly Shelley) of Aiken, SC, James Daniel "Puit" (Vicky) Gaskins of Aiken, Sheldon (Lisa) Parcell of WA; grandchildren, Sandy Gaskins, Rebecca (Clayton) Snider, Joseph (Breannah) Meek, Madison Meek, Jason C. Waller, McKenzie Gaskins, T. J. Hunt, Jaydean (Jessica) Gaskins, Jr., Jesup D. Gaskins, Jami D. Gaskins, Jace D. Gaskins, Matthew Zeigler, Susan Rasband, Caroline Rasband, and Grace Rasband; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Pounds and Bobbie Killen both of Salina, KS and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a baby girl sister, Dorothy Juliee Mitchell; her granddaughter, Tiffany Wilson; sister, Shelby Jennings, and brothers, Frankie Mitchell and George Ray Mitchell.
