Katherine Mae Mecham-Cress was born December 19, 1938 in La Grande, Oregon to Alma and Grace (McMahan) Bills. She moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1942 with her Mother, Father and two sisters. Kathy's father, Alma Roy Bills ran a dairy farm in Emmett, Idaho. Kathy attended elementary and high school in Emmett, Idaho graduating in the class of 1957. That same year she was crowned Miss Cherry Festival Queen.
In 1958, Kathy married Arvil Mecham. They had one son Cordell and one daughter, Korene. Kathy and Arvil moved 28 times in three years within Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Kathy was a natural caregiver. For four years she provided care to many children as a licensed Day Care provider in Washington and while in New Jersey she served as a nanny. Kathy and Arvil divorced and Kathy moved back to Prineville, Oregon where she worked in an office of the Forest Service for 6 months.
In 2005, Kathy married Dick Cress in Oregon and they moved to Nampa, Idaho and later settled in Caldwell, Idaho.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Emmett Cemetery.
