Michael Dean Scheel, husband of Vicky Scheel, passed into the Lord's loving arms on Monday, November 27th, 2017 in San Antonio Texas. Born on February 22, 1946, he was the older of two sons to Perry and Ruth Scheel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Perry Scheel and Ruth Lockhart Scheel and his son, Aaron Scheel.
He is survived by: wife, Vicky Scheel; brother, Barry Scheel (Vicki); mother-in law, Lyla (Ray) Akkerman; daughters Rebecca (Ken) Ortensie and Rachelle (Jason) Arechiga; and grandchildren Kim, Angelica, Laura, Jeanell, Anthony, James, Marc, and Joshua. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mike grew up in Madison, Wisconsin where he completed an Associate Degree in Industrial Welding Technology. He married Vicky in September of 1974, and then attended LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, graduating with a bachelor's degree in welding engineering. The family lived in Eden Prairie, Minnesota from 1979 to 1983 where Mike worked as an engineer for ThermoKing (Westinghouse) Corporation. The family relocated to San Antonio where Mike worked in a variety of engineering positions including Chromalloy American Corporation and Newell Industries. Vicky still resides in the family home where the children grew up.
Mike was an avid reader and devoted to studying his Bible. He was an active member of Wayside Chapel for over 30 years and served as an usher for many years. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and continued to enjoy reading about these activities even as his health failed. One of his favorite family trips was a canoe trip into the Canadian Boundary Waters where the family enjoyed camping and fishing together. In his later years, he found special pleasure in his grandchildren.
Mike passed away at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital following a series of health problems. The memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1st at 2:00 at Wayside Chapel, 1705 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78213, with a reception immediately following.
