Hughey Maughan Songster passed on from this life at his home in Waller, Texas on December 28, 2022. Hugh was 81 years old and had been battling with Parkinson's Disease and cancer for several years.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Ann Blackwell Songster, seven children and their spouses/partners; Christopher Hugh and Cynthia Songster, Heather Maughan and Charles Stautmeister, Matthew Lane and Katy Songster, Sarah Louise DeGraaf and Justin Handy, Paul Adam and Tamara Songster, Joshua Michael and Jennifer Songster, Micah Ammon and Amanda Lavergne. A son, Aaron Richard Hoyt Songster, preceded Hugh in death on March 7, 2009. Hugh and Patty have 36 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Hugh is also survived by two brothers and one sister; John Songster and wife Nancy; Donald Songster and wife Guilliana; Anne Gregory and husband Paul Mahr.

Hugh was born in Canandaigua, New York to Lois Evelyn Maughan Songster and Richard Calvin Songster on June 2, 1941, and was raised in Palmyra, New York. He served our country in the US Navy from 1958-1962. His occupations included sheet metal journeyman (Hugh worked on the construction of many skyscrapers and buildings in the Houston area), satellite dish/system installation, environmental consulting business owner and was working as an environmental consultant until recently.

He was a very intelligent man and mechanically inclined, excelling in many pursuits such as being able to envision and build just about anything, beekeeping, animal husbandry, agriculture, drinking fountain system installation and pole barn construction.

At 6'2", he was a large man with a big heart. His engaging personality and strong moral character made him a friend to and beloved by many. Several people have expressed how Hugh helped them in their time of need.

Hugh was a High Priest and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a great grandson of strong Mormon pioneer ancestors. He will be greatly missed.
