Richard Lee Ingram Jr.

On March 28, 1935, Richard Lee Ingram Jr. was born in Jackson Tennessee. He was the 3rd of nine children born to the late Richard Lee, Sr. and Callie Louise Ingram.

Richard, affectionately known as Junior to family and friends, began a formal education in the Tennessee School Systems, became a graduate of Alton High School then attended the Florissant Valley College of St. Louis, Mo. At the age of four, Mr. Ingram attended the Walnut Grove Baptist Church to lend another heavenly voice to the choir along with his family and any parishioner who enjoyed gospel fellowship… Those simple times were the humble beginnings of what led him to be a devout servant of the Lord, throughout life till his final days. Richard Jr.'s father and mother moved him and his siblings to Alton in 1947. Growing up, he was loved by all and anyone that knew him! The Mid-West brought many new experiences.

In Alton, IL. Richard, his older brother Archie along with local friends Connie Perry and Joe Brooks formed the Illinois Jubilee Quartet. Before forming other groups with younger brother Luther handling the lead, singing had always been a very strong family passion encouraged by the Ingram family matriarch. Mother Callie would routinely lead her boys in song culminating into the sensational Mid-West Crusaders in 1952 and The Gardenias in 1956. The later groups featured Richard's 5th Baritone in a five piece setting releasing the Federal Records recordings, "My Baby's Tops" and "(All Alone and) Miserable" written by Richard in 1956

During the late 1950's, Mr. Ingram would also honorably serve in the United States Army. His service took a mature young cadet from the white cliffs of Dover, Kent (part of the English Channel) to streets of Germany before completing a two year tour of duty. Upon returning State-side, Mr. Ingram became gainfully employed in Saint Louis, Mo at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft (now Boeing).

Literally everyone embraced Mr. Ingram's genuine warmth and generosity for others as well as a deep love for friends and family. Richard Junior often wrote poetry and music. Of the many Biblical Characters Richard Jr studied, it was David, who in spite of his life's struggle maintained this unwavering faith in his enduring love for God. Mr. Ingram was as much a man of talent as he was at expressing his dignity! He always shared some stellar aspirations or endearing

dreams for those he loved. Like Mother Nature, Brother Richard was also known for his green thumb and spent lots of time volunteering efforts toward beatifying the church memorial garden.

Mr. Ingram was a truly beloved soul guided by the tenacious spirit and Godly wisdom of his cherished mother Callie …A respected brother, a proud father of four and a doting grandfather. To anyone who ever had the opportunity to know him, you'll forever hear that (heavy) bellowing, yet melodic baritone, singing with a natural prowess that only Richard possessed. To all, we will surely miss Junior's keen awareness of Jesus, the heart and soul of his very spiritual nature… Yet, part of this beautiful legacy will forever be in his trusting love for his brothers and sister, cherished moments spent with his daughter Christine, his sons, Micah, Richard III and Askia.

Late Sunday evening, on Sept 6th 2015 Mr. Ingram departed this world, going home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Callie (Cobb) Ingram; sister, Georgia Lee Ingram, two brothers Allie B. and Luther T. Ingram; son, Richard (Ricky) L. Ingram III; brother-in-law, Pennington McGee and sister-in-law, Dorothy Ingram of Alton, IL.

Mr. Richard L. Ingram Jr. leaves to forever cherish his memory, one daughter Christine Eisner of Hanover Germany, two sons Micah Ingram of St. Louis, Mo.; Askia Ingram of Springfield, IL and former wife Beatrice Ingram of St Louis, Mo.; one sister Daisy Ingram McGee of Alton, IL; four brothers Archie of Alton, Jesse (Sherlene) of Alton, IL.; Frank (Karen) of Victorville, CA. and Thomas of Alton, IL.; his beloved Aunt Martha Weddle of Jackson, Tennessee and a host of beloved grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
