Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rita Darby, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Gary Schexnayder will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Darby, age 91, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home surrounded by her loving and caring family. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Darby, a well-known Opelousas artist and business woman, owned and operated Opelousas Ceramic Studio for 25 years. She used her talents to produce beautiful works of ceramic art and inspired many area adults and youth to explore their own creative abilities.

She is survived by: her children, Ludora Cutrera and husband, Tony, of Lafayette, LA; Elizabeth Ellen Darby Caillouet and husband, George, of Lafayette, LA; Kathy Bertrand Martin and husband, Jimmy, of Opelousas, LA; Linda Darby Guidry and husband, Raymond F., of Slidell, LA; Julie Darby Johnson and husband, Bob, of Sheridan, Wyoming and Louis W. Darby and wife, Brandie, of Branson, MO. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Loray Martin Bertrand; her second husband, Louis A. Darby; her parents, Thadeus Winfiele and Rena Doiron; her daughter, Kay Darby Devillier and husband, Leighton; her sisters, Melrose Winfiele, Elaine Winfiele LeBas and her grandson, Jon Martin.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday by Deacon Jerome Collins.
