Decorated WWII veteran and devoted family man, Robert Casale, died Tuesday, February 6th, 2018, in Akron, Ohio, due to congestive heart failure. He was 93 years old.

His wife of 70 years, Catherine Casale, and two of his sons, Gerald V Casale and Roger Casale, survive him. He was pre-deceased by three of his other children, David A Casale, Becky A Casale, and Robert Casale Jr.

Born in New York in 1924, Robert was orphaned and raised by a foster family, the Pizzutes'. Robert's upbeat character and innate talents kept him from the perils of his poor, Italian-American upbringing. In high school he excelled at mathematics and drawing and design.

A skilled drum major, his youthful trajectory was intersected by World War Two. Drafted by the U.S. Army, he fought with the 4th Infantry Division, deployed at Normandy seeing action in France and Germany until the war's end. As a drill Sergeant and marksman, he earned a purple heart and several other honors. At age twenty Robert returned to the States, travelling to Ohio, settling in the Akron area. There he met his birth father for the first time and promptly regained his family name, Casale. It moved him to want his own family and shower his children with the love and security he longed for.

Robert married Catherine Rogers in 1947, bought a home in Kent, Ohio, and found employment as a high-tech plastics mold maker at the Colonial Machine Company in Mogadore Ohio. Together Catherine and Robert raised their five children there. Robert Casale's passing is a great loss to his surviving family and friends.

He was a Catholic, notably honest and trustworthy, with a big heart and a helping hand to all those who needed it within his social circle. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Overcoming tough odds he lived a long, meaningful life and more than accomplished his primary goals with hard work and unwavering moral values.
