His parents were Gerard Hutt III (1734 England - 1784 Westmoreland Co, VA) and Catherine Spence (1740 VA - 1812 Ross Co, OH). He married Elizabeth Crockwell (1775 VA - 1835) on 3 March 1799, in Berkeley County, Virginia. They were the parents of 1 daughter. He died on 25 August 1833, in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio at the age of 69, and was buried in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.
