After graduation, she worked at the Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison. After raising a family, she and her husband owned and operated Red's Place Tavern in Bargersville. She loved nature, her pets, poetry and debating current events.
Survivors include her husband, Al "Red" Schoentrup of Shelbyville; two daughters, Debbie (Tim) Schoentrup-Cook of Indianapolis and Beth Schoentrup of Shelbyville; four brothers, Bill (Betty) Blackburn of Florida, Stephen (Janet) Blackburn of Virginia, Tom Blackburn of Virginia and Lawrence (Judy) Blackburn of Shelbyville; and a sister, Peggy (Marlin) Thomas of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice (McNeilan) Blackburn.
Services were entrusted to Murphy-Parks Funeral Services of Shelbyville, Indiana.
