She died Dec. 22, 2022, one day after the 56th anniversary of her marriage to Byron Crawford. Jackie, as she was known by her friends and family, retained her sharp sense of humor until the end, and it was a lifelong gift to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
She was a disciplined student at Stanford High School in Lincoln County, Ky., where she was honored with the Good Citizen Award by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her name still hangs on a plaque at the school.
She attended Berea College, where she played on the basketball team, then Eastern Kentucky University, where she played field hockey.
In her later years, she loved being involved at Graefenburg Baptist Church, singing in the choir and visiting nursing homes and veterans' centers.
