Reverend Dr. Donald Davis Grohman, 87, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Saturday, December 17, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, stepchildren, sisters, grandchildren, and great-grandson, Tradewind Hoffecker.
Don was born April 13, 1935, in Butler, PA, to Earl and Genevieve Grohman. He was a graduate of Muskingum College, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Knox College of the University of Toronto. He also studied for six years at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Don was ordained to Christian ministry in the United Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1959 and was on the faculty and administration of Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tn., for 42 years. He was honored to serve the Presbytery as moderator for a term and to be elected twice as a Commissioner to General Assembly. He pastored churches in Knoxville, Morristown, Gatlinburg, and in the greater Chattanooga area. Don was also a cellist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra for 50 years and was a founding member along with his wife Melinda of the Rosewood Trio. He was a true renaissance man and a perpetually optimistic problem solver.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Chattanooga Kidney Center North and the drivers of the CARTA medical vans, all of whom added significantly to Don's life.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine St., Chattanooga, with Pastor Cathy Meyers officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, from 1-2 p.m. at the Second Presbyterian Church prior to the funeral service.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. Highland Memorial Cemetery, 4301 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville, Tn. 37939.
