June Lee (Anderson) Deener, of Rosemont, MD passed away at home, on Sunday, December 11th, 2022, from congestive heart failure. She was born on February 8th, 1933. She was the beloved wife of Herman "Nook" Deener to whom she was married for over 70 years prior to his passing in December 2020. June and "Nook" were sweethearts since the 7th grade and were married while June was a senior at Brunswick High from which she graduated in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her loving and adoring parents Albert Lee "Ab" Anderson and Beulah Virginia (Wiltshire) Anderson of Brunswick, MD.

Two sons and one daughter survive her: Dale Mitchell Deener, Herman Michael (Annette) Deener, and Kristi Michele (Mark) Mitchell. Two sisters also survive her: Dori Anderson and Cheryl (Anderson) Turney and husband "Bill." She was especially close to her niece Sheila Laird and her family.

She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Brunswick where she often sang as a soloist during her younger years. She raised her children to love and fear the Lord and saw to it that they attended every Sunday service as well as Sunday School, Bible School and youth groups during the week.

June was a consummate mother and grandmother. Her family always came first in her life. She enthusiastically supported her children's education and school events. She never missed a baseball, football or basketball game, band concert, school play or parade. She was always involved with her children's learning and taught them to read prior to entering public school. She sent all three children to college in order for them to receive the education she always wanted for herself.

She raised her three children and was an extra "mom" to all of her children's friends and later their spouses. She was particularly fond of Kathy (Dustin) Cummings whom she treated as if she were a second daughter. She remained an adoring grandmother and aunt throughout her life and is survived by two grandsons Adam (Brigid) Eshbaugh; LTC Matthew (Sarah) Deener as well as four granddaughters Megan (Brad) Gouker; Leah Mitchell (Cpt. John) Zender; Meredith Deener; and Makenzie (Brady) Starkweather.

She was tremendously proud of her beautiful great grandchildren: Delaney and Max Eshbaugh; Naomi and Quinn Deener and Chloe Gouker.

She doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren and seemed to always have a gift ready for them for every one of life's events, birthdays and holidays. She loved having them running through the house and made certain that there was always plenty of food and treats for them.

During the 1950's cold war era, June worked as a secretary for a defense contractor at Fort Detrick Maryland. However, June was best known for her career as the well-loved and long-serving secretary at Brunswick Elementary School where she was employed for most of her working years and from where she retired. She was more than an administrative school secretary. She was always there to comfort a sick child; wipe a runny nose or place a Band-Aid on a skinned knee. She frequently helped out in the classrooms and would read to the younger students.

Prior to the era of free lunch and school breakfast programs, June frequently purchased school lunch for children who would have otherwise gone without. There were times when she brought clothing to the school from home for children in need and would sometimes trade clean outfits for the soiled clothes worn by neglected children. She would then take the dirty outfits to her home and wash and dry them on her lunch break before returning them to the child. All of these actions were confidential and went unnoticed by other kids and most staff. These things were done without fanfare or expectation of gratitude. It was a matter of her personal character, faith and Christian charity. Times may have changed but she never did.

During her mid-life years, she enjoyed traveling with Nook in their RV; especially to Disney World. She loved everything about the experiences of vacationing in Orlando and also Daytona where they frequently drove out onto the hard sand of Daytona Beach.

June was housebound for the final 12 years of her life because of multiple health problems. Due to limited mobility, her primary activity was reading. Second only to family, June's favorite pastime was reading books. She would read everything on any topic but mostly she loved books. Friends and family members would bring bags and boxes of books to her on a frequent basis. She read sometimes six or seven books per week in addition to a daily newspaper and multiple monthly periodicals. This is made even more poignant by the fact that she read her Bible for an hour every morning prior to opening the newspaper or a book.

She remained an avid reader until early October of 2022 when she was overtaken by pain and admitted to the hospital in Frederick. After seventeen days of treatment in the hospital, doctors informed her that there was nothing more they could do for her. So, she asked to be taken home to the house she loved that Nook built for her 70 years ago.

Now she is home with the Lord in heaven. She is missed.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the John T. Williams Funeral home, 100 Petersville, Rd. Brunswick, MD at 12:00 noon officiated by her son, Mitchell Deener. Interment will be at Park Heights Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family will receive guests from 7-9pm on Friday, December 16th and from 10-12noon on Saturday, December 17th preceding the service.

June loved flowers but should anyone wish to contribute in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in June's name to the Brunswick Library and or the Brunswick Little League.
