Fern Clemens Bierce, 88, of Port Clinton, Ohio died 15 December 2022 at her home in Port Clinton, Ottawa County, Ohio.

Fern was born in Lawton, Carter County, Kentucky on 23 January 1934 and was the daughter of Chester Lee Clemens and Ida Stevens Clemens. She attended Mansfield Senior High School and was a graduate of the class of 1952 and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

Her nursing career began in the offices of Rundle Donald Campbell, MD in Mansfield. After watching her work as a charge nurse on the hospital floors, he sought after her to work in his office in Mansfield. Her 1967 marriage to James Bierce brought her to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where she worked in the office of George Galehouse, MD.

Following their retirement, Fern and Jim moved to Port Clinton, Ohio. Fern became involved in many women's organizations, which included book clubs and service clubs. As a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she became active in the Sandusky Ward, serving in several assignments whenever she was asked. Having developed a love of family history and genealogy from her parents, she was asked to be in charge of the local Family History Center located in the chapel on Bogart Road. Though not of the same faith, Jim was a valiant supporter of all that came with running and training the staff, keeping microfilm orders straight, and helping her host genealogy seminars. Their own research was the envy of many who visited their home.

Fern is survived by her three sisters: Jean (Earl) Roth of Mansfield, Ohio Betty (Perry) Demming of Wadsworth, Ohio and Peggy (Kerry) Lauritzen of Mansfield, Ohio, and a stepdaughter Terri Bierce Bowen of Pataskala, Ohio. Included are many dear nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren who adored her.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, The Honorable James Malcolm Bierce, her parents Chester Lee Clemens and Ida Stevens Clemens, and a nephew Peter Lauritzen.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, c/o Bishop Robert Coffelt, c/o 4511 Galloway Road, Sandusky, OH 44870. Please designate either "Humanitarian Aid" or "Fast Offerings."

A private burial was held at Catawba Cemetery in Port Clinton to allow family members and close friends to say goodbye to Fern "until we meet again."

The Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
