Charles Boardman was born in Vermont and moved with his family to West Virginia, then to Winona, Minnesota. He was one of the first 1000 volunteers in the Civil War. He served in the Army with the first Minnesota Regiment, Company K. He died in Iowa and was buried,along with his wife, next to his best friend in the Civil War Omar Wilcox.

This is the backside of the civil war picture of Charles. This photo was taken in Philadelphia, but we obtained the picture from the State Archives in Minnesota.

Fredericksburg, Marye's Heights, Chancelorville Campaigne, or sometimes referred to as the 2nd Battle of Fredericksburg, VA where Charles was shot in the back. May 3rd and 4th, 1863.

This affidavit talks about Phoebe meeting Charles for the first time and how she was not aware he was married before. I think it is interesting how she refers to her "husband the soldier".
