Charles Boardman was born in Vermont and moved with his family to West Virginia, then to Winona, Minnesota. He was one of the first 1000 volunteers in the Civil War. He served in the Army with the first Minnesota Regiment, Company K. He died in Iowa and was buried,along with his wife, next to his best friend in the Civil War Omar Wilcox.
