Another Old Gilpinite Gone
John Harlan, one of the old-timers, died in Denver last Saturday at the age of 79 years and 10 months. Mr. Harlan was born in Brookville, Indiana, September 6, 1836, and came to Black Hawk many years ago where he was engaged in the milling of ores. He joined Black Hawk lodge No. 11 A. F. and A. M., January 9, 1873, and served as its master from 1881 to 1882 Several years ago he removed to Denver and lived with his nephew, John T. Purcell. He died in that city July 15, and his remains were shipped to Black Hawk and buried with Masonic honors in the Masonic cemetery at Central City, Wednesday, July 19th.
