Shirley Johnson (Christiansen) Ferre

Shirley Johnson (Christiansen) Ferre, of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at the age of 78. Shirley was born on a cold winter day, January 10, 1944, to Peter Lundgren Johnson and Ada Leone Sidwell Johnson, in the family home located in Santaquin, Utah.

Her father and mother had seven previous children: Norma Blanche, Marjorie, Lola, Johnny Robert, Stella, Archie Dean, and Larry Bud. Shirley was the eighth and last child in her family. She attended grade and middle school in Santaquin, Utah and high school in Payson, Utah. After high school, Shirley attended Hollywood Beauty School, received a personal achievement award and graduated as a hairdresser and cosmetologist. Shirley worked for a couple of years at a beauty shop in Springville, Utah.

Shirley then served a 20-month mission for the LDS Church in the North Central States mission in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She spent time in the mission home and then went to Canada.

After serving a mission, Shirley returned to school. She attended BYU where she graduated with an associate Registered Nurse Degree. She worked at LDS hospital in Cardiology. She was privileged to work with Russel M. Nelson, who later became president of the LDS Church.

Shirley married William Russell Christiansen and they had a son, Joel J. Christiansen. They later divorced. Shirley and Joel lived in Payson, Utah, for a few years before Shirley purchased a family home in Spanish Fork, Utah, where she raised Joel as a single parent. Joel married Robin Anne Vlachos and they have 3 girls: Lainey (Alaina), Scout (Annika), and Audra.

Shirley married Garry Ferre December 18, 2004, in the LDS Provo Temple. Garry has four children from a previous marriage: Kerry (Betty), Carl (Mickey), Gayle (Emery), and Frank (Amanda).

Shirley and Garry went on an LDS mission to the Hilo River Reservation mission in Tempe, Arizona, in 2008. They did a lot of reactivation work. When they arrived there were 3 members, and 80 members when they left.

Shirley was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various callings including Young Women's, Sunday School, Relief Society, and Girls Camp Director (which she loved).

Shirley is survived by: her husband, Garry Ferre; their children and spouses: Joel (Robin) Christiansen, Kerry (Betty) Ferre, Carl (Mickey) Ferre, Gayle (Emery) Openshaw, and Frank (Amanda) Ferre; Nineteen grandchildren, Nineteen great-grandchildren; her brother, Johnnie Robert (Janet) Johnson

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at the LDS Church Building 1552 E 750 S Spanish Fork, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Home and a viewing at the LDS Chapel prior to the funeral from 9:45-10:45 am.
