"James was born in the Pendleton District (which in 1826 became Pickens, Anderson and Oconee Counties), South Carolina."

In 1802 James moved from South Carolina to Nova Scotia where he lived until 1816 when he returned to South Carolina.

"In 1808, James petitioned for land in Nova Scotia. "He stated that he was a farmer and blacksmith and had then a wife and four children. His grant was a wild meadow land.....on the headwaters of the Nine Mile River..."

In 1822, James and his family moved to Sangamon County, Illinois where they lived until 1835.

"James Wallace moved in 1835 from Sangamon to Macon County, Illinois, taking three sons and five daughters with him. He died there about 1845......Of his five sons and six daughters, three only remained in Sangamon county....."

"after the winter of the deep snow (he) came to Macon county, and settled in Long Creek, where he entered land, and remained until his death, which occurred about the year 1846".

On December 22, 1829, James Wallace purchased the West Half of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 15, Township 13, North of Range 6 West in Sangamon County, Illinois. On May 21,1832, he conveyed land in the Northeast 1/4 of Section 15 in separate parcels to William Wallace and John Wallace. On November 2, 1835, James Wallace and his wife conveyed several parcels in Section 15 to a Dewey Whitney.
