At the residence of his son, A. D. Smith, at the corner of Oak and 4th streets, Salem, on Saturday, Dec. 26, 1891, at 9:15 p.m. from acute pneumonia, Andrew Smith, aged 69 years, and 11 months. Deceased was born in Coldsprings, Cattaraugus county, New York, in 1822. He crossed the plains in 1842, being one of the first settlers in the Willamette valley, living in Yamhill county in the vicinity of Dayton. He married Sarah E. Palmer, daughter of Capt. Joel Palmer, in 1848. He was the father of six children, three of whom survive him, Geo. F. and A. D. being his sons. He had been living for the past six years with a daughter in Washington state, but had come to Salem about two months ago. The funeral will be from the residence at 2:30 p.m. today, the burial being in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Weekly Oregon Statesman, Jan. 1, 1892, 3:6.
