Obituary:

Arlington VerNon Petersen passed away peacefully in his home December 9, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.

VerNon was born to Marinus P. and Mary Elizabeth Petersen on January 7, 1920, in Newton Utah.

VerNon was the 5th of 9 children. He was preceded in death by both parents and six brothers and sisters, his daughter Dorothy Mae, his son Gerald Petersen, son-in-law James E Chance, and the love of his life, Dorothy.

VerNon attended school in Newton, Utah and High school in Smithfield at North Cache High School. While attending Seminary he met Dorothy Saunders. As she first walked past him, she told her friend that she would marry him someday! Two years later they were married in the Logan Temple on October 11, 1937. Dororthy and VerNon were married for 75 years before she passed.

VerNon was a farmer and loved farming with his family for many years. When he married, he and Dorothy had a small farm of their own in Newton and during that time had three children, Dorothy Mae, Gary and Eugene. They moved to Downey, California in February 1942 and owned a café called Pete's Café.

VerNon was drafted into the Navy during WWll and left his wife and three children at home. He fortunately was able to return home to his family after 10 months.
In July 1947, they lost their first child, Dorothy Mae in a car accident. 10 months later Christie was born and 9 years later Kevin arrived. They dedicated their life to raising their family.

VerNon was devoted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group Leader and in two Bishoprics. He served two Stake Missions and served faithfully in any way he could.

VerNon was foreman of a lumber company for 42 years and loved every minute! In 1983 he and Dorothy returned to Cache Valley to retire. They shared a home for 40 years with Christie and Jim and had the time of their lives, working in their gardens and flowers, wintering in Quartzsite AZ and enjoying the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his lifetime, VerNon touched the lives of many! He was an exemplary example to his family, showing unconditional love, integrity and his love for the gospel.

His death was sweet and peaceful and knowing the joy of his reunion with his sweet wife and children, his family and many friends brings us peace and comfort.

VerNon is Survived by his children, Eugene & Luana Petersen, Christie Chance, and Kevin & Carol Petersen. Morgan Petersen (brother) of Palm Springs, CA and Lois Taylor (sister) of Las Vegas, NV. 12 grandchildren, 21 great grand children and 11 great-great grand children.

Dad will be missed beyond words, however, knowing that we will all be reunited again and be as a family makes our hearts peaceful and our minds restful.
We love you dad with all our hearts and souls!
