Former Alaska truck driver Ernest "Tiny" Lawrence, 78, died Aug. 29 in Portales, N.M. A graveside service was held at Rest Haven Chapel in Eugene, Ore.
Mr. Lawrence was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Hamilton, Texas. He moved to Alaska in 1953 and was a truck driver until retiring from that profession in 1970. He then worked on the safety patrol during construction of the trans-Alaska pipeline. He belonged to Teamsters Local 959. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will be missed by his Alaska friends. Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell.
He is survived by his stepson, Matthew Marks and his wife, Anita, of LaPine, Ore.; his niece, Rosanna Neely and her husband, Sherman, of Springfield, Ore.; and his close friend, Boley Sullivan and his wife, Christine, of Portales.
Arrangements were handled by Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.
