Carolyn Clenn Goff Allers, second daughter of John R. Goff and Mary Luvina Scoggin Goff was born in Glover, Missouri on November 7, 1909. She departed this life on June 18, 2006 at age 96.
Carolyn received her early education in Glover rural schools until the family moved to Ironton, MO where she attended elementary school and graduated from Ironton High School in 1927. Teacher training classes during her high school years encouraged her to seek a degree from Southeast Missouri State Teacher's College, Cape Girardeau, MO, and eventually a Master of Arts in Education from Washington University in St. Louis.
She began her 45 year teaching career in Glover rural school, taught classes and served as elementary and secondary school principal in Annapolis, MO from 1933-1946. In 1945, Carolyn married George V. "Spud" Allers and they made their home in Desloge, MO. From 1946 to her retirement in 1975, she taught English at Desloge High School, later consolidated as North St. Francois County High School. During her teaching career, Carolyn also placed great emphasis on extra-curricular activities, serving for many years as senior class sponsor and faculty sponsor for various clubs and school trips. She was one of several who taught classes in railroad cars until a new building replaced the old high school, which had been destroyed by the tornado of 1957. Carolyn Allers is remembered by generations of students from all four and a half decades of her devotion and educating youth.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and P.E.O.; a lifetime member of the National Education Association and a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. Both she and "Spud" were well known as able and willing community servants.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Gilbert, Glen and Guy Goff and two sisters, Theodosia Goff Winkler and Marie Goff McHenry. She is survived by two nieces, Mary Lee Winkler Stevenson of California, Carolyn McHenry Elwess of Parkville, MO, two nephews, Clifford Earl Winkler of Oregon and John Goff McHenry of Cedar Hill, MO and several great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She also will be missed by scores of friends, alumni and members of the Desloge and Flat River communities.
According to her wishes there will be no memorial service, simply a short viewing at 10 o'clock, Thursday, June 22, at White Funeral Home in Ironton, MO followed immediately by a graveside service at Arcadia Valley Memorial Cemetery, Ironton.
