Clarence Elmer Hansel, 88, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, formerly of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Clarence was born on December 5, 1934, at home on the farm in rural Clayton County, the son of Arthur and Eva (Simons) Hansel. Clarence was raised in the Colesburg area attending rural country school until the 8th grade and was a 1952 graduate of Colesburg High School. Clarence joined the United States Army in 1956 and served honorably until his discharge in 1958.

On September 22, 1956, Clarence was united in marriage to Pauline Morarend at the Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Four children were born to this union. The family lived in Colesburg until 1976 when they moved to rural Colesburg. Clarence worked as a tool grinder at John Deere in Dubuque. In 2016 the couple moved to their current home in Strawberry Point.

Clarence was a member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church. He was also a longtime member of the Colesburg Volunteer Fire Department. Clarence loved to travel with his family, play cards, listen to country music, and watch old western movies. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Pauline Hansel of Strawberry Point; four children, Peggy Denton of Haven, Kansas, Doug (Rebecca) Hansel of Colesburg, Michelle Borrett of Strawberry Point, and Mike (Dr. Sheryl) Hansel of Cedar Falls; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Beulah Flatjord of Hiawatha.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Duane Denton; and two grandsons, Logan and Conner Hansel.
