Karma Hatch Pectol
1930 - 2022

On 6 December 2022 at 9:50 a.m., the sun was shining through the clouds as Karma Hatch Pectol stepped back into her eternal home. It was fitting that she returned home during the beautiful Christmas season as her life was a witness and testimony of her Lord and Savior.

Karma was born 22 January 1930 to Roy Cooper and Martha Heywood Hatch in Panguitch, Utah, which she often said was the coldest place on earth. Her childhood was filled with love, family, and gospel study. Karma and her 10 siblings were like Nephi of old, as they were born of goodly parents.

Karma graduated from Garfield High School and went on to attend Dixie College. It was in St. George that she met Hal Wyatt Pectol Sr. They were married in July of 1949, and their marriage was solemnized in the Provo Utah Temple on 22 June 1982.

Hal and Karma resided in San Carlos, California, and had one son, Hal Wyatt Pectol Jr. Karma was employed as a supply buyer for a large machine company. She was a wife and mother and served in ward callings in Junior Sunday School and Primary. When Wyatt left California to attend Brigham Young University, his mom and dad soon followed. Hal and Karma built a home in Provo, Utah, and she has resided there for the past 52 years.

Karma was the administrative assistant to the director of Utah Valley Hospital for many years. She also was the director of the volunteers. She loved the work, and all those she associated with loved and respected her. She had the ability to take an interest and show kindness to everyone she came in contact with. She was able to mentor and guide many young interns who were working toward a profession in the medical field. She knew everyone in the hospital and her grandchildren called the facility Grandma's Hospital, because they knew she was in charge.

Karma is a faithful and obedient servant of her Heavenly Father. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she accepted any calling, and as King Benjamin, she served with her heart and hands. She especially loved Junior Primary and the Aaronic Priesthood administering the Sacrament each Sunday to the children of the ward. Primary gave her an opportunity to know and help children; she influenced many young testimonies by her example. Relief Society brought her so close to those she served with, and she was always striving to do all the Lord would have her do for the sisters of the ward.

Her fondest calling and role was wife and mother. Karma loves Hal and Wyatt and all her family. She set the bar high and deserved the title of GRANDMOTHER. She was delighted when her life was filled with grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and then great- and great-great-grandchildren. Even that was not enough, she has such a capacity to love and see value in others that she adopted family along the way. If Karma knew you, you were important to her and you felt her concern, efforts, and prayers in your behalf.

Karma was blessed with one son, but her heart had capacity to accept so many more. Raised in a large family, she had dreamed of many children of her own. It was not to be. Not yet. Karma remained steadfast, she was a woman a faith and a covenant keeper. As she did all that was asked, her blessings began to arrive. Her son, Wyatt was favored with a large and wonderful family; Karma's prayers were answered. The blessing is her posterity.

Karma is survived by grandchildren: Eric Pectol, Jana Pectol, Ryan Pectol (Michelle), Sheila Pectol, Ben Pectol, Brent Pectol (Chantelle), Karma Leia DeAnda (Rudolph); bonus grandchildren: Laura Jolley (Mitch) and Kate Thuesen (Jason); great-grandchildren: Drew, Logan (Marissa), Hallie Pectol. Brock Glasmann (Sarah), Cassidy Glasmann, Jayden, Lexie Holmes, Luke, Sean Pectol, Brittany Segobia (Josh). Taylor and Griffin Kessler, Gage and Stella Pectol. Braxton, Hudson, Payton Pectol, Fox and Gabby DeAnda, Hyrum and Jack Thompson, Amelia and Harper Jolley, Lauren, Vera, Avery, Emmalyn, and Ezra Stockard; great-great-grandchildren: Luka Segobia, Ada Pectol, Myra Glasmann, and Noah Nielson; siblings: Carol Moss, Arlene Bell, Rell Hatch (Suzanne), Cheri Drew (Ron), Carole Hatch, and Brent Pectol (Betty); and so many nieces, nephews, and loved friends.

Karma has now joined the family that was waiting: her husband, Hal; son, Wyatt; grandsons, Jeromy Pectol and Blake Thompson; granddaughter-in-law, Cami Steel Pectol; her parents; sisters, Marina, Marti, Glena, and Meryl; and brothers, Karl, Roy, and Arthur.

Karma and Hal were blessed with 32 direct descendants. The desires of Karma's heart were heard. As she now continues to serve beyond the veil, we will be blessed by her example of obedience and faith, her legacy.

Grandma Karma would have started these remarks with, "Have you heard the latest? It's the greatest!!!!!" Always positive, always seeking joy, she will continue to be our source of hope and promise.
