Son of Revolutionary War patriot Samuel Mattix and Mary Schoeneweis
Michael served in the New Jersey militia in 1793, and shortly after he married Mary Rutan 23 Apr 1795 at Frankford Township, Sussex County, New Jersey.
Michael and Mary's first three children were born at Sussex County, New Jersey and in about 1807 Michael moved his family to Butler County, Ohio. The family settled on a farm in Madison Township and raised their family, which included the following children:
