Mary Ruth Smith was born Mary Ruth Altizer on August 25th, 1934, in Haslet, Texas to Oliver B. and Vera Altizer. Mary passed away at 88 years old in the early hours of Saturday morning on December 3 at Cross Timbers Rehabilitation Center in Flower Mound, Texas after a brief Covid illness aggravated by hip surgery needed after a fall.

Mary is survived by her husband of 71 years, Al Smith. She is also survived by their two sons, Bruce and his wife Sherry of Marble Falls, Jim and his wife Sandra of Justin, daughter-in-law, Patty of Hawaii, eight grandchildren: Matthew, Dustin, Jonathan, Jordan, Brandon, Lisha, Chalsey and Zane (all Smith's),and numerous great-grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and youngest son, Roger.

Mary had various short-term jobs out of the home but her greatest desire was to be the most loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother possible. She excelled in this endeavor.

A family viewing will be held from 1:00 - 2:30 pm on Thursday, December 8th at DeBerry Funeral Home, 2025 W. University Drive, Denton with a graveside interment at 3:30 pm at Bourland Cemetery,  900 Bourland Rd, Keller, TX 76248.
