Deno George Damaskos, 76, passed Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at his home on Blue Slide Road in Thompson Falls.

He was born in Missoula Feb. 1, 1932, to George and Treva Damaskos. He and his sister Georgia (Ridle) and brother Frank grew up in Missoula. Demo played football and ran track during his school years, becoming a very popular track record holder, only to have been beaten by a second by his brother, who he was so proud to boast about.

After high school graduation, Deno was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 12, 1952. He was honorably discharged as Sgt. D.G. Damaskos Aug. 28, 1954. Soon after he enrolled at the University of Montana in Missoula for two years. Having earned his telephone skills while stationed in Okinawa, he applied with Mountian West Telephone Co. and U.S. West, which he worked with for 39 years. He then worked for Blackfoot Telephone Coop for two more years until he retired.

Deno met the love of his life while they both worked for Garden City Floral. Deno and Donna Marie Christensen were married April 26, 1957, in Missoula. They would have been married 51 years this April. They were blessed with three children, Tori (Geiger), Ty and Todd.

The family moved to Thompson Falls in 1975. Deno and Donna owned and operated Double D Liquor in Thompson Falls for 15 years.

After selling their store in June 2005, they retired. Deno tinkered in his shop and refinished his pride and joy, a 1956 Ford F-100 pickup.

In his younger years, his enjoyed his fishing trips to Flathead Lake with his telephone buddies. Later, he and Donna enjoyed many weekends with their boat and their three kids.

Deno was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Elks Club, Rods and Classics Car Club and Rivers Bend Golf Club.

He loved watching his grandsons play football and basketball for the Bluehawks and followed them wherever they went.

Deno was a wonderful Husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle and Friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his children Tori and Rod Geiger, Ty and Barb Damaskos and Todd and Dorrie Damaskos; his grandsons, Brett, Brandon and Trey Damaskos; his granddaughters Treva Howell (Jamie), Deana Geiger, Heather and Tasha; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Georgia (Larry) Ridle and brother Frank Damaskos and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Treva.

Burial will be at the Whitepine Cemetery.
