Dorothy (Grimm) Carroll of Mount Vernon passed away on November 27, 2022, age 98.

She was born in Arlington, Washington on June 6, 1924, to Stillaguamish Valley pioneers William G. and Dora (Jensen) Grimm. She attended rural Island School and graduated from Arlington High School in 1942 after which she attended secretarial school in Seattle.

Dorothy was employed as a secretary for Washington Motor Coach Co. in Seattle where she met her future husband, George Carroll, when he returned to his position with the company after serving in the Air Force during World War II.

They were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Seattle on May 29, 1947, and shared 61 years of a very happy and blessed marriage until George's passing on August 25, 2008. After being transferred to Portland, OR and living there and in Vancouver, WA for 3 1/2 years, they moved to Mount Vernon in late 1950 when George assumed the agency for Northwest Greyhound Lines shortly after their first son was born.

They built their home there in 1955 and raised their family of six sons. Dorothy was thankful to be a full-time wife-mother-homemaker for their growing family and thoroughly enjoyed the cooking, baking, canning, gardening, etc. She had a great interest in genealogy and researching both their family histories.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was active in Saint Mary's Altar Society and Saint Louise Guild assisting in various parish functions as well as at Immaculate Conception School. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother as well. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and in later years getting to know all their grand and great-grandchildren.

After George retired in 1981, they enjoyed many interesting trips throughout the U.S. as well as trips to Hawaii, Europe and to Air Force Reunions. They golfed on many courses and locally Dorothy was a member of both Gateway Golf Gals and Overlook Women's Club.

Dorothy is survived by their sons Charles (Cindy), Jim, Doug (Marilyn), Bill (Laurie), Terry, and Chris (Rebecca), and 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband George, her brothers Bill Grimm, George Grimm, John Grimm, her sisters Martha Young and Betty Keller. Two daughters-in-law, Lori Carroll and Rosario Carroll, also pre-deceased Dorothy.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on December 19, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 N. 15th St., Mount Vernon at 12:15 P.M. A reception will be held following a committal service at Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mount Vernon, WA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Regional School Endowment Fund or the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneers Association.
