Leader of "The DePriest Gang" a group of future patriots that conspired to counterfeit money and died as a political prisoner of the British in a Maryland jail . He was born in Goochland, VA - moved to Pittsylvania in 1767 along with other family members. The account of his capture and imprisionment is covered in the Virginia Gazette. He died and his children were "bound out" as orphans in 1768 (to be cared for by someone assigned by the Camden Parish of Pittsylvania, VA) children named as orphans of W2:"Ordered that the Church Wardens of the Parish of Cambden in this County do bind out Randolph, Willam, John, Elizabeth and James Dupriest according to law." (The youngest child, Ann Depriest, was born in March 1768 and probably wasn't recognized at the time). Note: there was NO mention of a Christopher which is proof that W2/Tabitha did NOT have a son named Christopher as some have speculated.
He married Tabitha (Harris Toney) and all 4 of his sons were involved in the Revolutionary War:
Randolph (R2) landed in Hickman, TN with 15 children via his wife, Anna "Amy" Barnett
Wiliam (W3) ended up in Rutherford, NC with his wife, Esther
James ended up in Mississippi - had multiple wives
and John who is thought to be the John that landed in Indiana
