ANGELA BACKMAN

1936 - 2022

Angela was born in Eureka, CA and grew up in Berkeley, CA the daughter of Angela McGee Campbell and Ralph E. Campbell. She was a graduate of Holy Names High School and Holy Names University, Oakland CA. Married in 1971 to James L. Backman, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was the loving mother of Mark A. Backman, mother-in-law of Adriana, and grandmother of James Backman of Albany CA, sister of Sister Margaret Campbell SNJM who predeceased her in 2016.

Angela was an active member of St. Monica Church in Moraga and Christ the King parish in Pleasant Hill and previously of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Oakland. In her final year, she returned to St. Mary Magdalen Parish, where she had grown up, attended school, and was married. For 21 years she taught Mathematics at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Pleasant Hill on Monday, December 5th at 10:30 am with burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters of the Holy Names in Los Gatos or Next Step Learning Center in Oakland CA.
