Mary was living with the Jeremiah & Eliza Iles family on their farm in Falls Twp., Hocking Co., OH in the 1870 and 1880 census. She may have gone to live with them after her mother died in May of 1864 or after her father died in 1865. Jeremiah & Eliza Iles were known to take in foster children, not just orphaned relatives like Mary. Mary was attending school in the 1870 census at age 7, then was keeping house in the 1880 census at age 17.

Mary married Elmer Ellsworth Stiverson on 23 June 1896 in Hocking County, Ohio. They were living in New Straitsville, Coal Twp., Perry Co., Ohio in the 1900 census. Their son and only child, Russell E. Stiverson was born 8 October 1900 in New Straitsville, then the three of them moved to Logan, Hocking Co., Ohio for the 1910 and 1920 census until Elmer died in 1929 and Mary died in 1930. In the 1910 census, Elmer was working as a bookkeeper in the bank in Logan.

Mary (Iles) Stiverson is listed on Elmer's death certificate as his wife. The death certificate can be seen on Familysearch.org. Heinlein Bros. in Logan handled the arrangements for both Elmer and Mary. They confirmed where Mary is buried. She had been committed to the Athens State Hospital where she died due to senility and mitral regurgitation.
