LeRoy Carl Burnheimer, 82, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.
The son of Sherd and Amanda (Nicewonger) Burnheimer, he was born November 17, 1936 in Homer City, PA.
LeRoy attended the First Baptist Church, Blairsville. Member of the Historical Society of the Blairsville Area, Defenders of Wildlife of the World, Humane Society of the United States and Chestnut Hills Social Center, Blairsville.
He graduated from Laura Lamar High School, Class of 1955. After graduation he served in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge from 1955 to 1957 and served in the Naval Reserves from 1957 to 1961.
LeRoy worked at Torrance State Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1996 and also worked part-time at Luther Ford, Homer City.
He was a very kind, loving and giving individual and loved his dogs, Kimba, Kimba II, Tiny and Leele.
Surviving are two sons, Allan Burnheimer of Black Lick and Bryan Burnheimer of Indiana; seven grandchildren, two sisters, Donna Burnheimer of Indiana and Peggy Shank (Dale) of Homer City; a brother, Wayne McQuiston (Donna) of Homer City and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife and dear friend of 25 years, Judy D. (Ropp) Burnheimer on February 15, 2005, two brothers, Ronald Burnheimer in 2001, Donald "Bernie" Burnheimer in 2013 and four sisters, Helen Mogle in 1990, Betty Stuchell in 1996, Hazel Cain in 2009 and Edna Mae Sheehy in 2013.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, Pa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Cory A. Braatz officiating.
Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA
Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
