Mr. Upshaw, the son of James Bruce and Elizabeth Candler Upshaw. He was born in Villa Rica, GA.
During World War II, Mr. Upshaw saw action aboard a Navy Destroyer assigned to duty in the Atlantic. Following his retirement from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer he became a resident of Fairview, which was home for his sisters Ruth Alexander and Annie Florence Eberhart.
Jack loved the mountains of Western North Carolina and the Fairview community. He was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Bird, Ruth Alexander, Annie Florence Eberhart, Mallie Argo and brother William Upshaw.
Burial: Old Fairview Sharon United Methodist Church.
