BESSIE NOVELLA McCURRY, 94, of Velma, Okla., went to be with her Lord on Wed., July 1, 2009.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Velma Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cody Deevers officiating. Interment will be in Old Velma Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
All visitation will be at the Grantham Velma Chapel.
Bessie was born on Dec. 27, 1914, in Wapanucka, Okla., to John and Agnes Burkhart. She was the youngest of eight children. She married Rex McCurry on Nov. 25, 1933, in Wapanucka.
Mom (Grandma Bessie) was a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook. She worked at Martin's Grocery in Velma for many years, retiring when Grandpa Rex retired from Skelly Oil.
She loved her family and was happiest when they were around. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always celebrated at her house with her cooking the meal (especially her hot rolls and pies).
She is survived by her seven children, Jeanette and Jerb Bryant of Velma, Gordon and Bobbye McCurry of Haynesville, La., Beth and Hershell Files of Velma, Jerry and Carolyn McCurry of Luther, Okla., Nan and Jerry Schmidt of Newton, Iowa, Sherry McClure of Edmond, and Jo and John Martin of Disney, Okla.; nine grandsons, Danny and Gayla Bryant, Tim and Renee McCurry, Marty and Angela McCurry, Greg Files, Shan and Starlet Files, Jay and Kelly McCurry, Bryant and Amy Schmidt, Jeff and Robyn Schmidt and Scott Duncan; three granddaughters, Kim and Shad Shaddock, Jana and David Aduddell, and Chris and Todd Reeser; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her caregiver and special friend, Dorothy Bradshaw.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; her parents; seven brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law.
Bearers will be her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Velma Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
