"Rev. Asa Ballenger arrived in Scioto County circa 1814 and left there with his family to move to Stephenson County, Illinois in 1837. He and his family are listed on pg 117 of the 1820 census, Wayne Township. We believe he and his wife Amanda were married there in 1815. In a later census he states he was born January 10, 1791 in Virginia (but came there from Kentucky) and she about May 1, 1795 in New York. Her maiden name is listed variously as Shaw, Swaar or Swan.
