Otelia Elizabeth Gillis "Ms Tilly" East Chicago Otelia Elizabeth Gillis "Ms Tilly", 71, of East Chicago, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago. Survived by three daughters: Glenda Gillis-Williams and Sharon Gillis-Marks, both of Gary, Ellen Gillis of East Chicago; four sons: Gregory Gillis and Richard (Rita) Gillis, both of East Chicago, Anthony Gillis of Atlanta, GA and Rev. Patrick (Carla) Gillis of Hammond, IN; 20 grandchildren; 14-great-grandchildren; father, McKinley (Marcella) Gibbs, Sr. of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Ann (Robert) Givens of Gary; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Gibbs of Cleveland, OH and Johnnie Mae Gibbs of Sacramento, CA; special cousin: Otelia Champion of East Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and freinds. Preceded in death by her mother, Annie Gibbs, grandson, Michael Gillis and two brothers, McKinley Gibbs, Jr. and Thomas Gibbs, Sr. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23, 2000, 11 a.m. at New Community Baptist Church, 5461 Calumet Ave., Hammond, IN, with Rev. Dr. Cato Brooks and Rev. Dr. Kenneth Arlington, Sr. officiating. Interment, Fern Oaks Cemetery, Griffith, IN. Friends may call on Friday, December 22nd at New Community Baptist Church from 4 to 8 p.m. with Family Hour beginning at 7 p.m. Mrs. Gillis was active in many church ministries, a member of Womens Improvement Club and other social organizations. She was also a St. Catherine Hospital volunteer, a well known vocalist and pianist and avid bowler. Hinton-Williams Funeral Home, East Chicago, IN, in charge of arrangements.
