Funeral Service Held Today for Aged Brazos Man
(From Saturday's Daily)

This afternoon at 2:30 o'clock funeral services for the late Major John William Shaw of Rock Prairie community, were held from McCulloch-Dansby funeral chapel, with Rev. Chas. E. Bullock of Hearne conducting the services assisted by Rev. Roy S. Hollomon. Following the services in Bryan, interment was made in the family lot in the Steep Hollow community with services also held at the grave by Rev. Bullock and Rev. Hollomon.

Major Shaw was born September 2, 1847 in Calhoun county, Miss. and at the time of his death was 84 years, 6 months, and 23 days of age. He had been in feeble health for some months, and died Friday at 2:30 p,m, at the home of his son, R. R. Shaw at Rock Prairie.

When only five years of age, he came to Texas from his native Mississippi, with his parents. They settled first in Walker county, and later moved to Brazos county. Major Shaw was a citizen of the county for 59 years and had a wide circle of friends in this part of the state. He was a lifelong member of the Baptist church. He was a veteran in the War Between the States, and always enjoyed the reunion of the Confederates in Bryan when Hood's and Green's Brigades met here annually. For several years he was unable to attend the reunion on account of feeble health. Major Shaw was married early in life to Miss Rachel Josephine Martin and the their union were born nine children only four survive him. Two sons and two daughters, R. R. Shaw of Rock Prairie, and George B. Shaw of Bryan; Mrs. C. L. Eden of Bryan and Mrs. L. I. Dehart of Houston. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Roxie Wiggin of Lovelady.

Pall bearers at the funeral were H. P. Dansby, J. H. Reed, C. A. Buchanan, H. O. Ferguson, A. S. McSwain, and Clyde R. Goen.
