Anton married Juliana Kruse in Steinheim in 1876. They immigrated in 1881, first to Pennsylvania, then to Clatskanie, Oregon where they had friends. They came to the Birkenfeld area in 1886. Anton and his three oldest children, Anton J., Julia, and Mary walked from Woodson near Westport over the mountains into the Nehalem Valley. They found property to homestead in the Deep Creek area.
