Mary Ellen Gerber, 79, of Shakespeare, passed away at Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan on Saturday, April 14, 2018. She was born in North Easthope Township, Perth County on May 8, 1938 a daughter of the late William and Mary (Gascho) Schwartzentruber. Mary Ellen was a sales clerk at Canadian Tire in Stratford for 30 years, was a Ladies Fastball enthusiast, having been a player in her younger years and as a fan in her later years. She is survived by her husband, Amos Gerber, whom she married at Poole on September 28, 1957; three children, Jim and wife Lety Gerber of Monterrey, Mexico; Kathy and husband Chris Murray of Ottawa, Patty and husband Rob Fleming of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Jared Fleming, Mitchell Fleming, Erin Murray, Alexandra Murray and Ben Murray; her sister, Laura Gerber of Wellesley, her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Freda Schwartzentruber of Stratford; sister-in-law, Mary Stief and brother-in-law, William Gerber (Marion Faull). She was predeceased by her brother, Irvine Schwartzentruber, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael Gerber, Marion Schwartzentruber, Florence and David Kropf, Mattie and Sanford Bast and Elton Stief. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Avon Mennonite Church, 90 Greenwood Drive, Stratford on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Troy Watson and Pastor Amy Kuepfer will officiate. Reception following. Interment will be in Poole Mennonite Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Ten Thousand Villages or Jesse's Journey (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 519-655-2431.
