Gladys "Dollie" Thelma Gammage Johnson, died on August 8, 2022, AGE 100, in Cottonwood, Arizona. This amazing spitfire was born on March 6, 1922 in Elkhart, Texas, to Albert (Abner) Gammage and Edwina (Eddie) Campbell Gammage. At 16, she snuck off and married Jewel Carlton Johnson on November 19, 1938, after the Justice of the Peace was finished milking his cow. They survived poverty, a house fire, WWII, and other hardships in their nearly 56 years of marriage, but were most proud of their three sons. Gladys was kind and selfless, working at missions and offering help wherever needed. She and J.C. worked at different Texas schools and the Boy Scouts, as well as traveling cross country to visit family.
Predeceasing Gladys were: her son, Jewel Douglas "Doug" Johnson; her husband, J.C. Johnson; her parents; siblings: Ruby Gammage Wooten Nelson, Luther Doyle Gammage, Clarence Everett Gammage and Edna Mae Gammage Scoggin Simpson.
Her survivors include: SONS: Doyle Carlton Johnson, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Darryl Juneau Johnson, of Cottonwood, Arizona; GRANDCHILDREN: Lisa Johnson Lovewell, Mark David Johnson, Karen Johnson Meadows, and Jeremiah Carlton Johnson; GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Katherine Diane Lovewell, Amanda Carol Lovewell, Drake Andrew Johnson, Zachary Alexander Johnson, Mason Carlton Joseph Rabalais, John Trebor Rabalais, and Ryan Harris Rabalais; GREAT GREAT-GRANDCHIDLREN: Nicole Danielle Prothro and Alyssa Katherine Prothro; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. You will be missed, Grandma!
