Mr. Cooley passed away after a gallant battle with congestive heart failure and cancer. A 15 year resident of Bentwater, Mr. Cooley was born the second son to Elmer E. and Ethel Walters Cooley and was raised at his parent's rural home in the southwestern Pennsylvania town of Fairchance. After graduating from Georges Township High School, Mr. Cooley began his professional career with U S Steel in Clairton, Pennsylvania. With the desire to improve his family's lifestyle, in 1943 Mr. Cooley brought his family to Galena Park, Texas where he was employed by Sheffield Steel, which later became ARMCO Steel, until his retirement in 1978. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Cooley was the Superintendent of the Coke Plant at ARMCO. After retirement, Elmer & Ruth lived in River Plantation as well as Hot Springs Village, Arkansas before settling into their home in Bentwater in 1992. Ruth passed in 2003. Mr. Cooley is survived by his daughter Geralyn Reitmeyer and son-in-law James, his son Thomas Cooley and daughter-in-law Carolyn, his daughter Peggy King and his son-in-law Charles, and his son Bob Cooley. He also leaves behind his sister Dorothy, brother Warren Cooley and sister-in-law Betty, his sister Kathryn, his brother John and his sister-in-law Lilly and all their extended families. In addition, Elmer & Ruth Cooley leave a legacy of eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, as well numerous extended family and friends.
