She was born on January 7, 1927 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Glen and Mary Elizabeth Park Howard. Mary graduated from Decatur Centennial High School in 1944 She married Joseph 0. Powell of Auburn on July 3, 1947.
The couple lived on a farm west of Auburn.
She worked for the Auburn School District for 37 years as cook and head cook. Family was very important to her and she enjoyed watching all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities whether it was a musical or basketball, football or BMX racing. She was their biggest cheerleader. She had a passion for travel that over her lifetime took her and several travel buddies all over the US and the world.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and four brothers.
Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
