Joyce Irene Packard passed away November 12, 2022 following a period of declining
health having lived nearly her entire life in Burbank, Ohio. She was born on
February 22, 1927 to Sidney and Gladys Christopher. Joyce always seemed pleased
to share a birth date with George Washington.
Having graduated from Burbank High School, Joyce enjoyed telling grandchildren
about her academic accomplishments. Most likely these conversations were
intended to encourage each of them.
Joyce married P. Robert Packard in 1945. They spent 63 years together prior to his
death in 2008. Love of family was central to Joyce's life. After raising three children,
she willingly cared for her grandchildren when needed. She delighted in supplying
the home with toys and games suitable for all age levels. She appreciated her
nephews and nieces and enjoyed learning about their families.
As a seamstress, Joyce created clothing for family members, made pillows,
comforters, and recovered small pieces of furniture. She gave baby blankets and
comforters to others.
Joyce worked for many years as the bookkeeper for her husband's roofing business.,
and was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Burbank.
Joyce was a person who appreciated tradition. Her baking and culinary endeavors
reflected those of her early family years. We will always remember her pumpkin
cookies and Christmas popcorn balls.
She spent many happy times with her sister-in-law, Frances. Who could forget their
happy smiles and chatter following a "thrifting" trip that yielded interesting finds.
Most likely it was Frances who gave Joyce the nickname "Speed."
Joyce is survived by son, grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her sister, Patricia Humrichouser.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by son, Michael
R. Packard, daughter, Rebecca Packard Indovina, sister, Maxine Wright, and
brothers, Larry and Arthur Christopher.
Burial will follow at Burbank Cemetery.
