Lemuel Henry Armstrong is the son of Malinda Jane Smith and Lemuel Henry Armstrong. The elder Lemuel served in the Civil War in Company A, 19th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Burford's), CSA. In 1870 the family was living on Duffau Creek, Erath County. By 1880 both parents were deceased and the younger children were living with older siblings. Lem, John, and Emma were living with older sister Mary S and her husband, S. A. Drake, in Dallas County. Lemuel Henry married Margaret E about 1882, and in 1900 Margaret had had 8 children and 5 were then living. After Margaret's death, he married Hattie B Martin about 1907.

Children include: Theo M. (b. Feb. 1885); Lemuel Henry, Jr. (b. Nov. 1887); Ben Elzie (b. March 1890); Georgie C. (b. March 1892).

His brother Benjamin E. Armstrong also is buried in Central / Shields Cemetery.
