Charles is a son of James and Eliza Jarrell, both born in North Carolina.

In the 1900 Dade County, MO Census Charlie Jarrell, 29, and his father James T Jarrell, 74, (born, July, 1825, NC) are servants doing farm labor for the Sanders H Merrick family.

From the Greenfield Vedette, October 22, 1925 --
Charlie Jarrell was born October 8, 1870, Dade County, Missouri, near Everton, and died October 7, 1925, at the county farm in Jasper County, at the age of 55 years, 11 months and 2 days. He was buried in Carthage the following day. Death was caused by blood poisoning from an old sore on his leg.
Charlie was born of Christian parents who, like many others, were poor, but did their best to support their children. He was an exceptionally bright boy, but at the age of seven he had brain fever, which left him weak, both in body and mind.
When Charlie was 22 years of age his mother died, leaving him in the care of his father and other relatives. Within a few years his father lost his health and was unable to take care of him; so Charlie, having no home began to wander here and there.
In early youth he showed his love for music by making crude fiddles from gourds and cigar boxes. By his natural skill he began playing snatches of music upon them. Later, he was fortunate enough to possess a real violin, with which he passed away many happy hours. Without the music he would otherwise have been miserable. This also won him many friends, and by their generosity he was able to gain the few necessities which he needed in his humble life.
Though poor in this world's goods, there is no doubt that Charlie is among the rich in heaven, for he was often in attendance in church services and Sunday school, and was heard to speak of being prepared to meet his old parents in the better world. So we hope that "Fiddling Charlie," as he was familiarly known in many different towns in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas, is now among the heavenly chorus singing praises on high.
At his death he left two brothers, William, whose home is in Indiana, and Al, of near Everton, both parents and two sisters having gone on before him. ---Mrs. Belle Stockton
