Benjamin Franklin Shunk was born in Somerset county, Pa., Dec. 21, 1825, and died at his home north of this place March 4, 1907, aged 81 years, 2 months and 11 days. Mar. 6, 1856, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Kreichbaum, in Stark county, O. To this union four sons were born as follows: Francis M., who lived to manhood and was drowned in the Fayette (Idaho) river; Charles W., who resides in Missoula, Mont., Daniel W., of this place, and Milo W., of Butte, Mont. The widow and the three last named sons besides five brothers and four sisters survive. The deceased first came to this county in 1853, returning here again in 1856, since which time he has resided continuously in this township, making but few changes in his place of residence. He was a man of sturdy honor and persistent industry, leaving a heritage of good citizenship to his posterity, more to be prized than great riches. As a husband and father he tried to do his full duty. Francis and Peter Shunk, brothers, reside here, the former on a farm and the latter in town. The funeral was held from the late home of the deceased yesterday afternoon and was largely attended as befitted the passing of a patriarch. E. T. Scott conducted the services. The sons at a distance were unable to attend.
