Joanne E. (McCarthy) Rickert passed away November 5, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Joan was born August 28, 1929 in Appleton, WI to the late Stephen and Alice (Kohl) McCarthy. Joan graduated high school from Appleton High School in 1947 and was soon to meet her husband, John Rickert, while attending a Lawrence Welk dance being held in the area. Joan enjoyed music and dancing. She worked as a bookkeeper in Appleton while she patiently waited for John to return to the states while serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. Joan and John were married on September 3, 1955 and enjoyed 66 loving and memorable years together. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Freedom, WI, Green Bay, WI, Brookfield, WI, and Medina, OH. Joan worked at McDonald's in Medina for over ten years and enjoyed working with her many friends she made there. She and John were active members of Medina Lions Club. In 2000, she and John retired to Sun City Hilton Head, SC. While living in SC, she enjoyed making new friends and many activities such as the Lions Club, the Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians, helping charities, swimming, nature walks, and spending time with her granddaughter, Emily. Joan was blessed with the gift of beauty and elegance, she was a loving soul with graceful quietness. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, John Rickert; her parents, Alice and Stephen McCarthy; her brother, Timothy McCarthy; and her daughter, Mary Jo. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Rickert) Woods (Terry Steven Woods); her son, James T. Rickert; her granddaughter, Emily R. Cover; and many nieces and nephews. Joan's family would like to thank Crescent Hospice and her caregivers for all their hard work and support to the family. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, November 18, 2022 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Bluffton. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 am until the hour of the service at the church.
